This is typically a time of joy and celebration, but not necessarily for everyone. Is it me, or does this year in particular seem weighted with sorrow near and far? Walking in the woods is the main thing keeping me sane.
The woods remind me to allow for the ebb and flow of life and light. It reminds me to acknowledge and accept decay and decomposition, while welcoming new seedlings, new life, and constant change. It helps me practice letting go of old ways that no longer serve, professionally, personally, and culturally… and to recognize the suffering caused by clinging on to what we think we know and have become familiar with.
The low angle light, driven snow on tree trunks & branches, critter tracks crisscrossing snowy fields, rustling wind and starry skies… remind me that once you strip away all the nonsense, what’s left is just energy moving in some wild cosmic choreography.
We are all moving, creating, dancing in a field of energy, effecting and being affected by every other being and their field of energy. What kind of energy we choose to create and how we choose to respond is wholly up to us.
That is our power.
That’s our responsibility.
I’d like to create fields that heal and nurture the landscape, and all the human and non-human people who are part of, and depend upon the landscape. I am also aware that even as I am trying to figure out how to create those fields, I am still creating fields!
FIELDS HAPPEN!
Self awareness is key. It brings intention to the fields you create, the human and non-human lives you influence, the vibe you bring into existence. Everything else is just noise distracting from what is real and true and fundamentally important.
Try not to be distracted.
Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning and spread it over the fields…
Watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness."
