Cycles and Spirals

The smell of autumn is in the air. Mornings are crisp. Kids (and teachers) are back in school. The very beginning of color is starting in the poplars and red maples. And so the cycle continues…

I love reminding myself that time only appears linear, and from galaxies to electrons, we are all just going around in circles... spirals actually!

Spirals are the most efficient path of movement, which is obvious when you observe water eddies in a stream, or see the path a butterfly takes across your garden. Yet, we have been taught to strive for linear progression. Any deviation feels like regression, or even failure.

So here's a reminder (as if there aren't enough reminders everywhere around us - e.g. tides, moon phases, circadian rhythms, smoke swirling, water funneling down a drain, etc.) to honor the cyclical nature of all things!

Using movement as a metaphor for how we think and work and relate to others, we will be playing with the concept of spirals, waves, and rotation in our new series, beginning this week!

Hope to see you there!
